There’s something very heartwarming about happy endings. And a pit bull named Bella finally got hers.

In a Best Friends Animal Society release, the poor canine who had to gnaw off her leg to save herself finally landed a home in March this year.

A postal worker discovered her in Michigan’s Saginaw Country. She was tied up and tangled in their yard without food or water. They also found that Bella chewed off her back leg to escape the tether. Thankfully, the Saginaw County Animal Care and Control rescued the emaciated canine just in time to treat her injuries.

Desi Sage, the officer who saved Bella, shared how unimaginably gut-wrenching it was to walk into the backyard and witness the canine’s demise. Sage said that Bella’s resilience was admirable despite what she’s been through.

After they treated her physical injuries at the facility, they worked on healing Bella’s emotional damage. The Saginaw County Animal Care & Control provided her with the best care possible and reached out to other facilities that could help her overcome trauma.

Thankfully, the nation’s largest no-kill sanctuary in the country heeded their call. After reviewing her medical and behavioral history, the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary opened its doors to Bella. The facility is known for rescuing abused and neglected pets like the canines from Michael Vicks’ dogfighting ring.

Last January, Sage left with her colleague Abbe Balderstone and went on a 1,800-mile, three-day journey to Kanab, Utah, to Best Friend Animal Society’s sanctuary. Bob, Pat Schust, and Zach Webster of Thelen Auto Group made this road trip possible. The car company provided transportation and shouldered the gas expenses for the trip.

Sage thanked the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary for their role in ensuring that Bella would never go through the same painful ordeal again. She believes this next chapter in the canine’s life will help her move forward and be a step that would land her a home that would make her feel special.

Eventually, someone saw Bella’s worth. Last February, a couple named Kim Diehl and Jason Reding from Rockport, Illinois, visited Best Friends Animal Society. They were hoping to find a new furry pal after the death of their senior pit bull named Roxanne. They had already read about Bella before coming to the sanctuary and were very excited to meet her.

Diehl described it as love at first sight when they took Bella for a walk. The beloved canine stayed with them for a week at the sanctuary’s onsite cottages for some quality time. The couple discovered how energetic she was and fell in love even further with her bubbly personality. They decided to apply for her adoption.

As soon as they were approved to be her fur parents, they made the journey to pick her up in Denver so she could finally settle in her new Illinois home.

Diehl promises that they intend to make up for all the suffering the canine endured. She said they intended to spoil her rotten. And this is probably why Bella had the biggest smile when she left the facility when they began their Illinois road trip!

Currently, Bella has adjusted well to her spoiled life. Her new fur mom shared that the pup has a bed on the floor next to her, where she sleeps through the night. They have nothing but love for the newest addition to their little family!
