Nick Jans is a photographer and he was living in Juneau, Alaska. One day, he saw a black wild wolf. He thought that the animal was amazing and he thought that he may not see one again soon so he took photos of the beautiful animal. But what he didn’t know was that he would be seeing the wolf a lot often.

The wolf visited Nick’s place daily. It even started to interact with Nick’s Labrador retriever named Dakotah.

One day, the dog was able to get out of their fence and went to the wolf. The two animals stared at each other. They were nose to nose.

Nick saw this and he was unsure if he should go and get Dakotah back to the house or if he should just let them be. This was the first time that the two animals were meeting this close. He chose to take photographs instead seeing that his dog was in no danger.

That meeting of the dog and the wolf became a regular occurrence and it started a friendship between the two animals. The wolf would go by Nick’s house daily as if asking Dakotah to play with him.

This friendship went on for years. Nick’s neighbors also noticed the two animals. They even called the wolf Romeo.

Nick’s wife wasn’t keen of the two animals’ friendship. But no matter how much she disliked it, Dakotah and Romeo wouldn’t be stopped. They would play together. Nick even noticed that Romeo even started to act like how a dog behaves. He would beg Nick for a game of fetch.

Nick wanted to share the experience with other people so he wrote the book “A Wolf Called Romeo”. He was amazed at how the two animals of different species became close and with one of them being a wild animal.
