A homeowner in Troy, Illinois was surprised when he discovered a dog in his yard. He immediately contacted animal control, and the cops responded instantly. They collected the animal and brought it to Partner 4 Paws, a local rescue and adoption facility.

The dog, now known as Piper, was once assumed to be feral. But, she was too scared to approach humans and showed no hostility. She did not even struggle or resist. She simply retreated to the corner and refused to communicate with anyone.

Piper found the shelter environment to be too overwhelming. She required the solace of a home. Thankfully, Angela and Courtney, a couple with extensive experience caring for fearful rescue dogs, volunteered to take Bella in.

Piper’s reluctance to leave her kennel required a little persuasion and a great deal of encouragement. But, when she was finally out in the yard, she felt embarrassed once more and attempted to hide under a little cat carrier. She always found a place where she believed she could conceal herself.

Upon entering her foster home, Piper immediately hid in the restroom. Until she spotted her foster dog siblings playing in the yard, she was adamant she would not leave that location. She abruptly rose up, introduced herself, and began to play with them.

Piper’s change occurred in approximately sixty minutes. She was initially hesitant and bashful about allowing her foster mothers to sit near her, but soon she allowed them to do so. Soon, she gained sufficient trust in them to begin eating directly from their hands.

The dog found that she can stay inside the house without sacrificing her freedom, and that she can go outdoors without fear of becoming homeless. She developed trust and self-assurance. She relied on her foster mothers and entrusted them with her life.

Angela and Courtney adored Piper so much because of her incredible change, which was the reason why. They agreed to grant her permanent residency. And while many would label it a failure of the foster care system, they referred to it as a successful adoption.
