Whether you’re quite on your way to the grocery or to work, there’s always a great chance that you will meet a dog in the middle of your trip. But what will you do if you chance upon a dog riding the same train as yours?

Many train commuters of Istanbul are quite familiar with this setup. A dog named Boji has been riding the train every day. And upon closer monitoring, the city’s transportation department even noticed that the said dog was also riding other forms of public transportation.

Boji the wandering dog

Aylin Erol, Metro Istanbul’s head of customer relations, said that they’ve been seeing the dog using the trains for a few months. She added that it was an interesting sight, so they decided to follow him. By tracking Boji, they discovered a pattern – it seemed that the dog knew where to go and how to get out of the stations.

Eventually, public transport officials picked up the large brown dog. They took Boji to a veterinarian to be checked up. The pup also received a microchip, which was connected to a mobile app. This allowed Metro Istanbul to keep tabs on Boji.

He’s now a superstar

Boji’s travels around the metro turned him into a celebrity. He was always happy to accommodate fellow passengers who wanted to take a selfie with him. He would even receive treats from some of them.

Boji also proved himself to be a considerate and polite passenger. One person said that the dog knows all the travel rules. He even gives way to disembarking passengers and finds a quiet place for himself. But sometimes, his playful canine instincts are still there; when he misses the train, he runs after it!

Boji is visible in at least 29 stations. In a day, he travels around 18 miles within the city. Lucky for this unique dog, he doesn’t need to shell out some money for a fare.
