Jared Johnson was working on a project on their property in Loris, South Carolina when a tragedy happened.

The 17-year-old teenager was using heavy machinery to dig a huge hole. He was used to these types of large equipment as his family taught him how to operate them. He also has years of experience with them already.

After digging around 10 feet, Jared stepped down to inspect his work. Unfortunately, he slipped on the edge and fell inside the hole. He immediately sunk up to his chest when he hit the muddy floor. He couldn’t get himself back to the top.

Water was gushing around him, and this made the soil unstable. There was the imminent danger that he could get buried alive.

His rescue came thanks to a clever dog.

Trapped in a hole

Jared’s brother Chris went home around four in the afternoon after he got off work. As usual, he lets the family dog, a two-year-old pit bull mix named Tuxx, out of the house so he could do his business. When the dog came back, Chris noticed that he was acting strangely.

Tuxx was frantically barking and kept running to their yard then back to their door. He would look straight into Chris’ eyes, and it seemed he was asking him to follow.

Chris threw a ball in the yard thinking that the dog wanted to ply, but the pooch ignored it. That’s when he realized that something was wrong. When the dog ran to the yard again, the curious owner followed.

They then got to where Jared was.

Five hours

Chris tried to get his brother out, but the ground was too unstable. So he decided to call the firefighters. Because of the condition that Jared was in, they had to work slowly and safely so that no one would get hurt or worsen the situation.

The rescuers worked for five hours until they successfully lifted the teenager out. Thankfully, he didn’t suffer any major injury. Jared is doing great after his accident, and that’s because a dog knew that he needed help.
