A Good Samaritan named Chynna Arias contacted Hope For Paws Animal Rescue about a stray dog that had been living in their neighborhood. She told the rescuers that while many of the neighbors tried to help, the pup was just too scared to let anyone near him. Eventually, he hid under a house, which made it more difficult to save him.

After getting all the details they needed, two of the head rescuers, Eldad Hagar and Lisa Chiarelli volunteered to take on the mission. Armed with a gentle snare and a Lucky Leash, they crawled underneath the house to meet the dog they, later on, named Scotty. They planned to corner him but securing the pup proved more difficult than it already seemed.

As soon as Scotty spotted the rescuers, he walked away and hid. And when Lisa tried and reached him with the snare, he wedged himself behind some wooden boards. It was a pretty smart move because he chose a spot where they couldn’t reach him.

Lisa and Eldad spent more than an hour convincing the dog to come out but he was just too scared. He didn’t even move a bit. All he wanted was for them to leave him alone, but that, definitely, did not happen.

When the rescuers saw a weak spot, they managed to create a larger opening that allowed them to reach the dog. It took lots of work different types of maneuvers, but in the end, they caught him. So slowly, they got him out of his tiny hiding spot.

The rescue partners spent the next hour reassuring Scotty he was safe. Later on, they looped the leash on him, and he relaxed. And together, they made their way out.

After getting a haircut, vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped, Scotty joined Lisa in her home. He stayed with her until he was ready to be someone’s pet again.

Scotty was in the dark for five months, but thanks to Chynna, Lisa, Eldad, and everyone else who played part in his rescue and rehabilitation, he found a family with whom he belonged.
