A Pitbull named Jessica was found tied to the back fence of Villalobos Rescue Center (VRC). No one saw who left her there or how long she waited, but she clearly was so afraid and confused. She swaddled her tail between her legs and she cowered when Mariah, one of the lead rescuers, approached her.

The dog was terrified of everything that happened around her. With her demeanor, it was safe to assume that she was in an abusive household.

Mariah was aware that it would take so much time, effort, and patience to rehabilitate the dog. She also knew it won’t be easy to find a new home for their newest rescue dog. But no matter the challenges, she was up for it, and she dedicated her time to ensure Jessica would be a good fit in her new home.

Jessica didn’t like anyone at first, not even her rescuer. She avoided them at all costs. A few months later, she started to grasp that wherever she was, she was safe. She warmed up to the VRC staffers, although she still chose to spend most of her day cuddled up on her bed.

While Mariah continued her work on the dog’s reformation, she also took time searching for Jessica’s perfect match. She almost gave up until spouses Lee and Shelley walked into the rescue center.

Lee and Shelley weren’t too specific about what they wanted in a dog. All they cared about was being able to help one. Even though Jessica was timid and nervous during their meet and greet, they knew she’d do great once she was home, and they weren’t wrong.

A few days later, everything was set in Jessica’s new home. She got a new bed, pillows and blankets, and tons of toys. Her new mom and dad couldn’t wait to finally be with her. The drastic change in her environment, however, made her incredibly nervous.

Jessica tucked her tail between her legs when she stepped foot in her new yard. But the moment she walked inside the house, her demeanor changed. She wagged her tail, sniffed every corner of every room, drank water from her new bowl, and then jumped onto the couch. At last, she learned how to dog.

Jessica is now a happy dog in her new home. She’s confident and she enjoys being outdoors. The littlest things that scared her once no longer bothers hers because she knows she’s safe.
