Sometime last year, the Greater Manchester Police Tactical Dog Unit received nine new members – and they were the cutest. These new members were four male and five female German shepherd puppies. The pups were born to Sally, the unit’s brood bitch, and Mati, the police dog.

Inspector Jason Knight reported that these puppies were born on Friday the 13th. While others may believe that this is an unlucky day, it is not for them.

He described the puppies as highly mischievous and identical in appearance. The nine fur balls delight in gnawing on shoelaces and pant legs. They also enjoy interacting with their visitors.

The puppies currently have no names. Once they become home, their new handlers will give them names of their own choosing.

Six of the nine gorgeous fluff balls will begin training as police canines in the near future. They will also receive booster shots. Following vaccination, the puppies and their handlers will begin their play-based training.

As part of their training, the puppies will frequently engage in tug-of-war using a rag. This is the beginning of their path to becoming canine police officers who will confront crooks daily. In addition, they will visit airports and other such locations to familiarize themselves with public environments.

As Inspector Knight stated, it is essential to begin socializing the puppies as soon as possible so they will be ready for their future job. In the future, they will be general-purpose dogs. They will be confronting widespread unrest, dealing with crowd management, and tracking down criminals.

The police department wants the puppies to mature into fearless, self-assured, and socially acceptable dogs. These characteristics are essential for them to fulfill their important duties. Once they are certified as police dogs, they will remain on duty until they are approximately eight years old.
