A property owner in Louisiana contacted Villalobos Rescue Center to report that a squatter had abandoned a pit bull on his property. The dog was in poor condition. He suffered from flea dermatitis, and his backside did not have any fur. The poor dog was also nearly skeletal.

Tia and Perry, both seasoned rescuers from the animal welfare organization, hopped in their van and rushed to the location. They combed the vacant property in search of the lost puppy. The property was overrun with foliage, and they saw the dog owner’s trailer there. They eventually discovered the chained dog close to a tree and a crudely constructed dog home.

As soon as the pit bull spotted the two rescuers, his tail began to wag. It appeared that the dog realized that they were there to assist him.

When Tia attempted to pet the dog’s head, he began to lick her hands. Despite living in such horrible surroundings, the pit bull was quite sociable.

Not only did he lack access to clean water and only had a bowl of dirty rainwater, but he also had very limited mobility. It appeared that the dog was underfed. The pit bull needed to be relocated, so Tia swiftly unhooked him from his line and attached a fresh leash.

Just as they were loading the dog into their van, a neighbor began shouting at them. The neighbor stated angrily that the dog belonged to someone else. When asked where the owner was and when he would return, he replied that the owner was on vacation and he had no idea when he would return.

The rescuers held firm and asserted that the dog needed assistance. They told the neighbor that he could inform the dog’s owner where he could find his pet upon his return. The confrontation thankfully de-escalated, and the rescuers took the stray dog with them. Hopefully, the owner will recognize his error and make the correct decisions for his pet.
